Comvita, a global company producing and exporting natural health products, wanted to expand their visitor attraction facilities to take advantage of the growing recognition of the brand and products in international markets. In a joint venture with tourism company the Department of Discovery, they set out to open a new Visitor Centre in Paengaroa.
In collaboration with landscape architects, Boffa Miskell, Calibre Consulting provided the concept and detailed of infrastructure for Comvita’s visitor centre, office and warehouse expansions on the 7.66ha site.
Our team provided the design of car parks, internal roads, a roundabout, tour bus parking, stormwater ponds and raingardens. Work also involved detailed design of the left turn auxiliary lane from the State Highway for heavy truck access to Comvita’s warehouse.
Comvita’s environmental commitment influenced the design philosophy for the new facility, with our team adopting a minimal environmental impact approach in the design of the site’s stormwater management and the access road interlinks.
