Calibre Consulting provided civil and structural engineering services for the redevelopment of a strip of shops after they were severely damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes.
One major challenge was that the ground had settled 190mm during the earthquakes. As a result, the Council revised the flood levels in the area, meaning the floor level of the new shops had to be 700mm above the height of the kerb. Our solution included ramps and steps to an elevated access way at the shop floor level.
This range of services included the design and documentation of screw piles that were required in specific locations across the footprint of the building. Our scope also included construction monitoring and the final sign-off, along with planning services to ensure that the required Land Use Permits were obtained.
